ASHLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL
GRADES 6-8 PHYSICAL EDUCATION POLICIES
GOAL:
The Ashland Middle School physical education program serves to improve on the physical, social, and developmental needs of each individual student. The goal of the program is to provide the student with activities and skills that will enhance their life long fitness/wellness and provide them with the knowledge to make healthy choices.
UNIFORM/DRESS:
Students are required to wear appropriate clothing for activity. Students are strongly encouraged to change into appropriate attire before each class. Students are encouraged to use a locker in the appropriate changing room, but locks will not be assigned. Attire should be of modest nature and allow the student to move freely. Sneakers are also required and should adhere to the safety of all students. Appropriate attire is required for students to receive full credit for that class. It is strongly urged that all jewelry be removed before physical education class. Classes will be outside whenever possible and weather permitting, so students should be prepared for varying temperatures.
MEDICAL EXCUSES:
In order to be excused from class because of illness, a note must be brought from home signed by a parent or guardian or from the school nurse stating why the student needs to be excused. In the case of an extended illness (more than 2 consecutive classes missed), a doctor’s note will be required. Excused notes will not affect a student’s grade unless they become a chronic occurrence.
GRADING:
A student’s grade each marking period will be based on the following areas:
1. Preparation: Students must come to class with appropriate change of clothing and be prepared for activity to receive full credit for that class.
